The Department of Food and Nutrition is providing breakfast and lunch to children of Miami-Dade County attending summer camps at schools. Presently there are 194 summer programs housed in Miami-Dade County Public Schools offering a wide spectrum of activities, including art, sports, technology and coding. The Department of Food and Nutrition is a proud partner of the summer programs at M-DCPS by providing a healthy breakfast and lunch for children every day. The Summer Food Service Program was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in regular session. The meals are completely free, made possible through a grant from the USDA that provides reimbursement for the meals served.

This year, the Department of Food and Nutrition has opened 9 Mobile Trucks located in areas of the County where there are no scheduled summer programs. Children from the community are welcomed to come and have lunch every day from June 12 thru August 1. The Mobile Trucks also offer a fun Activity for the children. The activity is called Eat & Read. The Book Mobile from the Miami-Dade Library System is making a stop to allow children to read a book, play games and check out books, if members of the library.

On July 5th, with the opening of the summer session, the Department of Food and Nutrition will start serving breakfast and lunch to an additional 42 programs to include summer school, Migrant camps and ESY centers.
