Careers in Food Service

If you want a career that is exciting, challenging, and allows you to succeed, excel, and feel good about what you do, then consider the field of Food Service.

OPPORTUNITIES in food service are virtually endless, beginning with entry level jobs that require minimal skills, to the CEO who usually has an advanced degree, and knows every aspect of the food service business.

    Food Service Managers in the Miami- Dade County Public Schools are required to complete an 18 week special training program given by the Department of Food and Nutrition. Food Service Managers can become certified through the American School Food Service Association. This is the only professional association dedicated to protecting and enhancing children's health and well-being through school meals and sound nutrition education.

  1. Cafeterias Restaurants (gourmet to "mom & pop")

  2. Food manufacturers, packers, and distributers Catering & product development

  3. Market research (quality control, customer food preferences, etc.)

  4. Newspapers, magazines, and books (writers of food-related topics, cookbooks, recipe testers, and tasters).
